First images of the upcoming Retro release reveal that while the upper appears to fairly true to form, the midsole is clearly not the original version, but rather the updated Air Max 95 Ultra sole that debuted last year. The midsole is the most costly reproduction factor of shoes in general, so it appears that Nike chose to re-use the Ultra version to justify this likely one-time-only release. A release date hasn’t been confirmed, but expect the two most recognizable colorways from 1996 – the “Concord” as well as the white/navy/neon – to hit stores soon.
