Some day soon the Cork footballers will stop hearing about that double-digit defeat to Kerry a few weeks ago.

For John Hayes the memory of that Munster final is even worse, given the red card he cheap Manchester united jersey picked up in that game.

“I was a little disappointed not to start, then watching the game unfold – though I thought we were coming into it after half-time, we got a few scores but they killed it off, and no better team to do that.

“When I came in it was a bit of a lost cause, nine or ten points down, but you still want to do something positive.

“Kerry were playing a lot of keep-ball, I tried to catch a guy with a shoulder but he side-stepped me, I stuck out an arm and that was it.”

Suspension means training in a vacuum, of course.

“That’s the punishment for one second of losing your composure,” says Hayes.

At the first session after the Munster final Messi argentina jersey we were doing hard running – which we deserved – and you know you’re not going to play in the match.

“It’s tough, a new situation for me, but Chelsea jersey 2015 sale it’s done and hopefully I’ll be in contention the next day. I’ve trained away but the lads did the business the last day and you can’t take it for granted that you’ll get a game the next day.”

He says he “completely understands” the anger of Cork supporters.

“I wasn’t too surprised — I’ve been around a while and when you have bad performances like that you expect a reaction.

“I’m lucky I’m not on social media so I probably avoided the worst of it, but you hear people talking . . .

“You have Bayern Munich jersey sale to expect that after a twelve-point defeat to Kerry in a Munster final, you have to expect a reaction. It might be harder for some of the younger fellas but you need a thick skin at this level, you have to react in the right way. We circled the wagons, looked forward, and tried to learn lessons from the game. You don’t become a bad team overnight.

“Losing heavily to Kerry in the last Munster final in the old Páirc Uí Chaoimh, though . . . You can’t let it get to you as long as it’s not personal. That’s when people get annoyed, when it’s personal. If it’s about football or constructive you hold your hand up, but when it’s over the top you let it ride off you, get yourself back to the training field to work hard.”

Hayes sees the anomaly in a team that doesn’t draw a huge following attracting vitriol in such large amounts.

“It’s a matter of record that we’re not the best supported team around but there’s still a strong element that follows us, that’ll stand by us.

“There’s an element quick to criticise you when things go wrong, but you have your own circle of friends within your club or within the panel, they’re the guys you need to listen to, to help when you’re taking a lot of flak. I learned a long time ago that you can’t listen to what people say about you, you’ve to take it on the chin and move on.”

They’re moving on this Sunday. Mayo have concentrated minds pretty well this week.

“They’ve been in the last two All-Ireland finals and not far away from winning both,” says Hayes.

“There might be shades of ourselves back in the late noughties, trying to knock that door down. They’ll be desperate to get to the All-Ireland final again but we’re in it for the same reason – it’s the All-Ireland or bust. I didn’t come back just to compete, I came back to win for Cork – Mayo is a massive test but if we weren’t confident in our ability to recover from the Munster final and be stronger in the All-Ireland series we wouldn’t be in this.”

Southampton fans finally have something to cheer about after the club announced the capture of Chelsea full-back Ryan Bertrand on a season-long loan.

The 24-year-old, who spent last season on-loan at Aston Villa, has made a total of 57 appearances for Chelsea since making his debut for the club against Birmingham in 2011.

“I’ve been very impressed with how Matt Targett is doing in pre-season, but he is still young and developing, which I am sure he will continue to do over the coming seasons.

“Left-back is an important position in the team because it is quite specialised in terms of the attributes needed to play there, so it is nice to get this signing completed because it gives us some stability.”

“I’m looking to get games and to play regularly in the way and the formation that I like, and I’m sure that will benefit my game. I still think Messi jersey the best is yet to come from me.”

Southampton have completed the signing of left-back Ryan Bertrand on a season-long loan deal from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Luke Shaw's big-money move to Manchester United meant Southampton were short of options on the left-hand side of defence but they have attempted to fill the void by bringing in the 24-year-old on loan for the 2014-15 campaign.

Bertrand had reportedly attracted interest from Liverpool but opted for a temporary switch to St Mary's to play under Ronald Koeman - his seventh loan spell away from Chelsea since joining the club in 2005.

"For me personally, this is another chance to play Real Madrid jersey 2015 and a chance to join a fantastic club that's moving in the right direction," Bertrand told Southampton's official website.

"With the set-up the club's got, the manager it has coming in and the ethos it has, I thought this was a perfect match.

"The manager's name speaks for itself, so to play under somebody like that will be good for me. His ethos and the way he plays matches my game.

"I had a lot of options and a lot of interest but, having met the people and spoken to the manager and seen what the club is about, in my mind this was the perfect decision.

"I'm looking to get games and to play regularly in the way and the formation that I like, and I'm sure that will benefit my game. I still think the best is yet to come from Manchester City jersey 2015 me."

Bertrand is Southampton's third signing of the close-season, alongside Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle.

New manager Koeman was delighted to get his man following the departures of full-backs Shaw and Calum Chambers, along with centre-back Dejan Lovren.

The club has also lost captain Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert to Liverpool, as the side Barcelona N98 jacket of 2013-14 has been broken up.

"He is a top player who will bring a lot of quality to the team," said Koeman. "He has experience at the highest level and is an exciting, attacking player, which is what I like to see in my full-backs.

"Left-back is an important position in the team because it is quite specialised in terms of the attributes needed to play there, so it is nice to get this signing completed because it gives us some stability."

Steven Gerrard has backed Liverpool to bounce back from last season’s end-of-season heartbreak and mount a serious title challenge once again.

The Reds led the Barclays Premier League by five points with three games to go in April, but a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Anfield — in which Gerrard slipped to gift Demba Ba the opening goal — saw them pipped to the title by Manchester City.

Gerrard, who retired from international football after the World Cup to prolong his Anfield career, is ready to put last season’s Chelsea authentic jersey 2015 disappointment behind him and lead Liverpool in their first Champions League campaign since the 2009-10 season.

And the 34-year-old insists that Brendan Rodgers’ side believe they can go one better than their 2013-14 second-place finish and win their first league title in 24 years.

Speaking about the last season’s campaign and the upcoming season, Gerrard said: “With 10, 12 games to go, people were maybe expecting us to drop away a lot sooner than we did. But we handled the pressure superbly well and we played some unbelievable football.

“We are a good team, with a good manager, that is getting stronger. The confidence is rising in the dressing room and we have got to show that we are the real deal.

“We are not there to just make the numbers up. There is genuine belief that we can be in there.

“Good sides don’t just have one good season. They keep trying to fight for what they want. Chelsea do it. Manchester City do it. Manchester United have had a one-off bad season and they will be back. Arsenal have made a couple of really good signings.

“The league is going to be very, very tough but we know we are one of the sides that has got a genuine chance of winning it. I believe that.”

Luis Suarez played a major role in Liverpool’s second-place finish last season but Manchester United jersey 2015 the Reds will, of course, be unable to count on his goals and man-of-the-match performances after he joined Barcelona earlier this month.

While conceding that Suarez’s departure is a massive loss, Gerrard insists there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic in the red half of Merseyside.

He added: “Of course it [winning the title] will be difficult, it would be difficult with Luis and it will be without. All the other teams will grow and improve in the summer.

“But the reason I have that belief and confidence is because of the experience of all the other games last year, and also the manager has been here for a bit longer, and because of the signings he is making. I’m pretty confident we can get right involved in it again.”

Subiaco and East Perth have been forced to train away from their Leederville base this week in the wake of heavy rain and three matches on Saturday that transformed the oval into a quagmire.

Claremont are also staying off the Showground for a week after hosting East Fremantle at the venue on the same day in a game spoilt by large pools of water.

The Sharks made an official complaint over the poor state of the ground to the WA Football Commission on Monday.

An emergency meeting was also held between Subiaco and East Perth officials, the City of Vincent and venue manager Turfmaster to fast-track repairs to Medibank Stadium ahead of Saturday's top-of-the-table clash between the two sides.

A hasty recovery plan will involve coring the ground and rolling the turf on Friday to compress the torn-up surface.

Subiaco chief executive Peter Capes said he Germany Autentic jersey had been concerned about the state of the oval all year, labelling it a "disgrace".

He said a plan presented to the City of Vincent last year that involved replacing much of the existing clay base with sand would have prevented the oval's sorry condition.

The Arsenal jersey 2015 Lions had asked WAFC maintenance experts in charge of Patersons Stadium to inspect the ground and used their advice to put together the original recommendations.

"It's totally unacceptable, the standard of the oval," Capes said.

"It was completely avoidable and they haven't done anything to avoid it. Our football club Argentina Authentic jersey had said 'you need to do these things'. They haven't done them. The outcome was always going to be what we've got. It makes the oval look poor."

Medibank Stadium is almost certain to host at least two finals, given East Perth and Subiaco are first and second on the ladder, but fixtures offer a recovery window.

The co-tenanted venue will host only two rounds of matches in August, with club byes and three consecutive away games for East Perth saving the ground from over-use.

City of Vincent acting chief executive Rick Lotznicker was confident a playable surface would be achieved, given the drier weather forecast.

"The city is aware of ongoing drainage issues at Medibank Stadium that contribute to the pooling of water and muddying up of the playing surface and are consulting experts in regard to a long-term plan to potentially upgrade the surface," he said.

"However, this will be at a significant cost."

East Fremantle chief executive Adam Kelly has also questioned the drainage at the Showground, saying his club was "shocked" by the ground's condition.

He pointed out rainfall had not been excessive, with just 14mm falling on game day.

The Showground was already scheduled for a general maintenance session tomorrow that will help dry out the surface.

Claremont football general manager Dean Horsington said the club's bye this weekend fell at a good time. "It'll be fine to play on," he said.
