ANAHEIM, Calif. - Howie Kendrick knows how difficult it is to hit home runs at Angel Stadium at night. Two of his drives against Nick Martinez didnt make it past the warning track. Kendrick got another chance in the 10th inning and hit an RBI double to give Los Angeles a 3-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday night. Josh Hamilton started the rally with an infield single against Neal Cotts (2-4), and Kendrick greeted Jason Frasor with a drive to the fence in left-centre on a 3-2 pitch with the runner going. "Right there, I was just trying to stay honest. I didnt know whether he was going to throw me a fastball or not, because hes got a split also," Kendrick said. "So I was just trying to see the ball up. They were playing me to the opposite field, so there was a big gap in left-centre. I put a good swing on it and hit it in the right spot." Mike Morin (1-1) pitched one inning for his first major league victory, striking out three and hitting a batter. Jered Weaver allowed a run and four hits through eight innings, struck out five and walked two. The three-time All-Star left with a 2-1 lead after C.J. Crons leadoff homer in the eighth, but Kevin Jepsen promptly surrendered a home run to centre field by Shin-Soo Choo on his second pitch in the ninth. Jepsen, who has only three saves in six full big-league seasons, was given the chance to close by manager Mike Scioscia just two days after Ernesto Frieri gave up a walkoff grand slam to Clevelands Nick Swisher in the 10th inning of a 5-3 loss. Cam Bedrosian, who took the loss in that game, was optioned to Double-A Arkansas before Saturdays contest after giving up nine runs, eight hits and seven walks in 5 2-3 innings over his first six big-league appearances. Nick Martinez allowed two runs and three hits in seven-plus innings after retiring his first 15 batters. The 23-year-old right-hander gave a needed boost to a beleaguered pitching staff that had surrendered 10 or more hits in six straight games — the teams longest such streak since a nine-game stretch in August 2008. Martinez recorded 10 of his first 15 outs on fly balls — including two by Kendrick that were caught on the warning track — and another deep drive by Cron. "Thats the nature of this ballpark. You love it and hate it, but its not going to change for me or anybody else," Kendrick said. "Ive been playing here for a while, so you come to expect those things sometimes. The biggest thing is just going up there and trying to put good at-bats together and put good swings on the ball." Hank Conger broke up Martinezs perfect string with an opposite-field double into the left-field corner on a 2-1 count leading off the sixth and scored on a groundout by Efren Navarro that tied it 1-all. "Martinez threw a heck of a game on their side. I didnt know if we were going to get to him or not, but we were able to squeak one across," Weaver said. Weaver pitched with runners on base in four of the first five innings and didnt get his first strikeout until fanning Brad Snyder to open the fifth. Designated hitter Alex Rios, who came in 4 for 25 against the right-hander, led off the second with a double and was stranded at third when Robinson Chrinos popped out and Michael Choice grounded out. Choo led off the fourth with a grounder toward the hole that went under second baseman Kendricks glove for an error, but he kept going and was thrown out by right fielder Kole Calhoun. "If he gets to second there, that would have made all the difference in the game. So for Kole to come up with a big play there was huge," Weaver said. "Hes scrappy and he plays with a lot of emotion on his sleeve, and hes shown what hes capable of doing — not only on the offensive side but the defensive side as well." Adrian Beltre followed with a single and was erased on a double-play grounder by Rios, who got into an argument with umpire Vic Carapazza about a previous pitch that was called a strike and was ejected. Donnie Murphy replaced him as the designated hitter. Carapazza also ejected Choice in the 10th for arguing balls and strikes after taking back-to-back pitches that appeared to be out of the zone. That ran Texass season total to six ejections. "Hes got a quick trigger finger. He needs to settle down a little bit," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "This is the big leagues. Theres going to be some tension flying around, and hes got to be able to deal with some of that. People are out there competing. Hes got to have some patience. Hes got to control himself. Its ridiculous." NOTES: Weaver ended a career-worst streak in which he had allowed a home run in seven consecutive starts. ... Angels 1B Albert Pujols missed the game due to pain in his lower back. Parker scored 32 points and the San Antonio led by as many as 31 on its way to a 119-96 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, closing out a stressful first-round series Sunday in seven games. The finale featured Tim Duncan diving into Dallas bench to save a ball and the Spurs reserves continually on their feet to celebrate baskets. But no one had as much fun or hit the floor more than Parker. The All-Star point guard was 11 for 19 from the field and 10 for 13 on free throws as Dallas was unable to keep him from attacking the lane, despite a series of hard fouls. "I just knew that I had to be aggressive if we wanted to have a chance to win the game because of the strategy that the Mavericks chose," Parker said. "They just dared me to score." Manu Ginobili scored 20 points, Danny Green added 16 points and Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard had 15 points apiece for San Antonio. Dirk Nowitzki had 22 points and nine rebounds to lead Dallas. Last season ended for the Spurs with a Game 7 loss in the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. Facing a much earlier end, San Antonio rode a raucous home crowd and overwhelmed Dallas. San Antonio advances to face the fifth-seeded Portland Trail Blazers, who upset the Houston Rockets in a six-game series. The series opens Tuesday in San Antonio. The Spurs got off to a quick start as they had done at home all series, but the Mavericks were unable to respond as they did in winning Game 2 on the road. Leonards 16-foot jumper gave San Antonio an 18-7 lead 6 minutes into the game and the lead swelled to 29 with 2 minutes remaining in the first half. "We gave ourselves a chance but today we got hit by a tidal wave early," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "They had their best game today and we just werent able to do quite enough to stay in it early. "Its hard when you get hit with an onslaught early the way the guys did." Nowitzki struggled through much of the series, but the Mavericks pushed the Spurs to the brink of elimination behind strong post-season performances from Monta Ellis, Vince Carter, Devin Harris and DeJuan Blaiir.dddddddddddd "On the court what confounded us was that theyve got shooters all the way around," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "Dirk Nowitzki gets a crowd, if you double him you, you leave a lot of other open shooters. So we played him pretty much one-on-one, so we could stay at home a little bit better. That and the ability to shoot it; spread the floor, run the sets that Rick does and the speed of Harris and Ellis was tough for us to handle." Dallas also played a physical series. There were two technical fouls and two flagrant fouls in Game 7 and two more flagrants reversed upon review. Parker was assessed a technical with 31.6 second left in the first quarter after making a layup on and jawing with former teammate Blair as the two ran down the court. The two had been talking to each other all series and Parker was clearly frustrated at times with the hard fouls committed by Blair on his drives earlier in the series. But Parker said it was all in good fun. "I was just laughing with DeJuan," Parker said of the technical. "Thats why it was so funny to get a technical for that, because I was not even cursing at him. DeJuan played four years (for the Spurs). He lived for a year at my house. I love DeJuan." Blair was later assessed a flagrant foul for elbowing Ginobili in the face on a drive. After the foul, Blair stared down Popovich, who was screaming at officials over the severity of the foul. The flagrant foul energized the Spurs, who went on a 14-2 run to take a 51-27 lead with 8 minutes remaining in the first half. "Everybody was active and kind of focused," Duncan said. "We had very little mistakes." San Antonio never led by less than 14 points in the second half. NOTES: The Spurs were 7-0 in games decided by three points or less during the regular season but were 0-2 against Dallas in such games in their first-round series. . Sundays game between Dallas and San Antonio was the 50th post-season game this season. It was also the fifth Game 7 of the first round. "I think its great for basketball and for the fans," Popovich said. "It drives all the coaches crazy. (But) for the game and everybody, its been a wonderful thing. " ... Blair was booed heavily each time he entered the game or committed a foul. cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '

Henne and the team agreed to a two-year contract worth $8 million Friday, keeping him from hitting the free-agent market. Hennes deal includes $4.5 million guaranteed in the first year and comes four days before the beginning of free agency and one day before Henne could have started negotiating with other teams. Coach Gus Bradley made it clear on a conference call that the plan is for Henne to be the starter, even if the general manager Dave Caldwell selects a quarterback with the No. 3 pick in the May draft. "Thats our plan," Bradley said. "If we did go that route, where we did bring in a quarterback at No. 3, wed like to create an environment where that quarterback could come in and just put all of his focus on preparation and learning without the distractions that come with it. That would be the ideal environment. "We feel good about that ... And if we draft a guy at No. 3, if that should happen, he could learn and just see how he progresses. Now, if we did do that and he did really well, were going to be open to it. Were obviously going to play the best guy. We want to create an environment like that for him to compete in, and I think that would give him the best opportunity to get better." Henne signed a two-year deal worth $6.75 million with Jacksonville in 2012. He started 13 games last season and threw for 3,421 yards, with 13 touchdowns with 14 interceptions, after replacing benched starter Blaine Gabbert. His return could mean the end of Gabberts tenure in Jacksonville, especially if the team drafts another quarterback. Gabbert is in the final year of his contract, and although his 2014 salary is guaranteed, the Jaguars are unlikely to keep Gabbert as the third-stringer. "It all depends on what we do in the draft," Bradley said.dddddddddddd "Just want to have flexibility in the draft to make sure that we can draft the best players at the position where were drafting and not to be handcuffed. Now, whether we decide to draft a quarterback in the draft or not, obviously thats something that Dave and I are looking at. I havent had any of those discussions like that with Blaine. I told him right after the season, come in, compete and lets go. Lets see what happens." Henne is 5-14 as a starter in two seasons with the Jaguars. A second-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2008, Henne said he preferred to stay in Jacksonville. "From my standpoint, we did want to talk to a couple of teams," Henne said. "But we figured if we got what we wanted -- and Jacksonville was my No. 1 choice -- that we would go ahead and sign with Jacksonville and not even venture out and talk with other teams. It was my No. 1 choice and I wanted to be there, so it all worked out for both sides." The decision keeps Henne from having to learn a new offence for the fourth consecutive season. He will team with offensive co-ordinator Jedd Fisch in hopes of improving one of the worst passing attacks in the league. Henne also knows the team could draft a quarterback who could push him for the starting spot. "This being my seventh year, there are no surprises," Henne said. "If they bring in a quarterback at No. 3, thats just only another guy in there thats going to try to compete and make me better and hopefully I can make him better. What it really all comes down to is helping the team win, and Ive always been a team player. Im going to bust my butt to be the starter and hopefully be the starter there for a long time. Whatever they do, thats their decision. My job is to help lead this team and be the starter Day 1." cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '

Tiger Woods didnt come close to claiming either Thursday in the Farmers Insurance Open, where the seven-time champion failed to break par in the opening round for first time in his career. Cink ran off three straight birdies late in his round on the easier North Course at Torrey Pines for an 8-under 64. That gave him a one-shot lead over Gary Woodland, who also was on the North, which is more than 600 yards shorter. Perez was on the South Course, host of the 2008 U.S. Open and with greens so firm this year that it felt like a major. Perez had a 67, the best score on the South by two shots, and even more astounding is that he played bogey-free. The South played nearly four shots harder than the North. Woods, making his 2014 debut, failed to birdie any of the par 5s and had to settle for a 72. "Even par is not too bad, but I didnt play the par 5s worth a darn today," Woods said. "Obviously, thats (tantamount) to try to get any kind of scoring on the South Course. Youve got to take care of the par 5s because theres not a lot of holes you can make birdie here. Subsequently, I didnt finish under par." Even at eight shots behind, he wasnt worried about a chance to win at Torrey for the ninth time -- including a U.S. Open. The courses are so different than its difficult to gauge where anyone stands until everyone has had a crack at both courses. The weekend rounds are on the South. "Im going to have to go out there and get it a little bit tomorrow to not be so far behind come Saturday or Sunday," Woods said. Cink did what he was supposed to do. The rough is up on the North, too, so it was important to get the ball in play. He did that, allowing him to take on some pins. "You want to really take advantage of the North Course because it will yield to you a little bit, and the South Course will not," Cink said. "I did a great job of going out there, just playing shot-by-shot, not really getting too caught up in, I have to birdie these holes. As a consequence, I actually made a few birdies and it felt great." Phil Mickelson, meanwhile, felt awful. He was coping with a back locked up on him, unusual for Mickelson because he doesnt have a history of back pain. It got so bad at one point that Mickelson thought about withdrawing from his hometown event, especially after his 4-iron on the par-5 18th at the North Course nearly went out-of-bounds. Mickelson used his short game to make birdie, and then made another birdie on the next hole and he scratched out a 69. "Never thought aboout not starting, but around the turn I thought about maybe taking this week off and seeing if I could get a little bit better," he said.dddddddddddd "I kind of fought through the back nine and gave myself a chance." He described it as a muscular problem and was hopeful treatment would help. Mickelson swung easy on the North. Players have to swing for the fences on the 7,698-yard South Course, where the average score Thursday 74.45. Not many would have predicted a 67 on the South, though Woods wasnt surprised when he heard who did it. "Why? He grew up here," Woods said. "This was his home course. Hes playing it more times than any tour pro certainly." Perez has such a history at Torrey that his father, Tony, continues to announce the players on the first tee at the South Course. And heres even better history -- Perez won a Junior World Championship at Torrey Pines, by beating some Orange County kid named Tiger Woods. "Best day of my life," Perez said. "Ive known him forever. Hes always been great to me. He gives me advice here and there, but to beat him that year was fantastic. ... Ive got to hold onto that, so thats about all that I got over him. But it hurts him. Ill you tell, it hurts him." Perez was joking. He is full of bluster and always fun, a favourite among the players. Thats what made Thursday so enjoyable. The weather was close to perfect, with hang gliders filling the sky left of the fourth fairway on the South. Perez had no bogeys on his card, and he cant remember if that ever happened since the South was stretched out to prepare for the U.S. Open. It was only one round, but it was a great for Perez -- and for Cink, who hasnt won since his British Open title at Turnberry in 2009. The test for Cink is Friday on the South, especially considering that only three players broke 70 on the South -- Perez, Charley Hoffman (another San Diego native) and rookie Kevin Tway, whose father (former PGA champion Bob Tway) won this event in 1986. Ottawas Brad Fritsch opened with a 3-under 69. Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask., carded a 70. David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., shot an even par 72. Riley Wheeldon of Comox, B.C, who qualified on Monday, signed for a 4-over 76. Mike Weir of Brights Grove, Ont., was another shot back. DIVOTS: Jordan Spieth, who missed the cut at Torrey Pines last year as a 19-year-old making his pro debut, played with Woods and Jimmy Walker and shot 71. ... Fifty of the 62 rounds under par were on the North Course. ... The worst score on the North Course was a 77 by Brandt Snedeker and Derek Ernst. cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '

SOCHI, Russia (AP) -- IOC spokesman Mark Adams says organizers are "very pleased" with the quality of play in the womens hockey tournament so far in Sochi. Because of a format change that separated the top and bottom teams in the world, there have been fewer blowouts than in past Olympics. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota Wild have switched goalies for Game 3 of their playoff series against the Colorado Avalanche, giving Darcy Kuemper the start instead of Ilya Bryzgalov. Coach Mike Yeo confirmed the change after the pre-game morning skate on Monday. Yeo pulled Bryzgalov for Kuemper midway through the second period on Saturday when the Wild fell behind 3-1. The Avalanche won the first two games of the series, and Bryzgalov gave up eight goals on 45 shots. That wasnt the only move Yeo made, though. Kyle Brodziak was taken out of the lineup. Justin Fontaine was added to the third line to play with centre Erik Haula and Matt Cooke. Dany Heatley also replaced Stephane Veilleux, but Yeo didnt specify which line Heatley would be on.dddddddddddd Fontaine and Heatley were scratched for the first two games at Colorado. Brodziak has never been a healthy scratch before in his six seasons with Minnesota. He missed the last regular season game due to an undisclosed injury and two games in the 2010-11 season because of an illness. Brodziak scored in Game 1 but also had a key turnover that led to an Avalanche goal. Yeo said the deficit in the series prompted the decision. "Its not just about Brodzy. Its also about other guys and their performance," Yeo said. Heatley had 12 goals and 16 assists in 76 games this season while his playing time diminished, but Yeo raved about his professionalism. MASON, Ohio -- Madison Keys accomplished something Serena Williams couldnt -- beating Alize Cornet. Keys pulled off a 6-2, 6-4 win over Cornet in the first round of the Western & Southern Open on Monday. "I dont have many complaints about today," the 19-year-old American said. "I definitely played pretty well and stayed in my game for the most part. Theres obviously a couple of things that I still want to work on and have better for next round, but Im pretty happy with today." Cornet, who upset the top-ranked Williams in the third round at Wimbledon six weeks ago, was playing with an injured left leg that she said started bothering her during her second-round loss to Victoria Azarenka last Tuesday at the Rogers Cup in Montreal. "Thats not the reason I lost, but it didnt help," said the Frenchwoman, who lost to Keys earlier this year. "She was very aggressive, hitting all winners." Louis Blues remain at the top spot of the TSN.DUNEDIN, Fla. -- J.A. Happ offered more questions than answers Wednesday in another rocky outing for the Toronto Blue Jays. The six-foot-five left-hander, pencilled in as one of Torontos starters, lasted just 2 2/3 innings in an 11-6 Grapefruit League win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Happ threw 71 pitches, including 34 strikes in an appearance short on control on a day when pitching coach Pete Walker said the goal was "to get him in the strike zone." "Its a big start for him," Walker added. It did not go according to plan, however, on a sunny 21-degree day before 5,255 at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. "Fortunately its not the end of the world here," Happ said. "But theyre going to count soon." On the plus side, Jays slugger Jose Bautista hit a pair of two-run homers -- his fourth and fifth home runs of the spring. And Melky Cabrera, who now has 19 hits in 45 spring at-bats, drove in two runs with two hits. And one day after being thumped 18-4 by the Detroit Tigers, the Jays (8-10) rallied from a 3-0 deficit for the win over the Phillies (5-13). With R.A. Dickey, Mark Buehrle and Brandon Morrow accounting for three-fifths of the starting rotation, the Jays have spent the spring looking for two more to join them. While Drew Hutchison has been by far the best of the rest, the Jays have so far resisted appointing him part of the rotation. Instead they have ostensibly given one of the remaining starting jobs to Happ, who has yet to provide much reason for earning it, and said the search continues to fill the final hole. Happ carried an ERA of 40.50 into Wednesdays game, having given up six runs on six hits with five walks in 1 1/3 innings over two previous spring appearances. A back problem has delayed his progress in spring training. He looked for positives in Wednesdays outing, saying the back felt fine and there were some possible minor technical fixes available. "I dont feel like Im far (from where I should be)," he told reporters. "You guys are going to take that outing for what it was and it doesnt look pretty. But pitch-wise, Im up to 70. Next time, it will be 85-90. If I still feel strong, that will be a good thing. So Im close." There seemed to be some mixed messages on Happs role before manager John Gibbons declared him part of the probable rotation. Happ dodged a question on whether he felt he had to prove something to make the rotation or whether his pedigree had already earned it. "Thats really not up for me to really answer that because that changes to whoever the bosses are," he said. "So it doesnt really matter what I think for that. "I expect to go out and be better, I know that. And hopefully thesee next two (outings) will be.dddddddddddd" The Jays starting pitching plans are certainly not set in stone. "We have an idea of what were going to do, but things could change," Walker said prior to Wednesdays game. Happ went 5-7 with a 4.56 ERA in 18 starts for Toronto last year in a season derailed by injury. He suffered a skull fracture and sprained right knee when he fell to the ground after getting hit with a liner by Desmond Jennings on May 7. He returned to action Aug. 7. Happ did not help his cause Wednesday when he gave up three runs on three hits, walking four and striking out two. He lived dangerously early, putting the leadoff batters on base the first two innings and often going behind in the count. He paid for it in the second, loading the bases on a single and two walks. With two outs, he was 0-2 on Ben Revere but the Phillies leadoff hitter worked the count to 3-2 and then emptied the bases with a double to the left-field fence. Happ got the first two outs in the third but then yielded a walk and a single before giving way to Sergio Santos. Toronto went ahead 4-3 in the third on an RBI double by Jose Reyes, sacrifice fly by Cabrera and two-run homer by Bautista. The Jays sent 10 men to the plate, leaving the bases loaded. The Phillies pulled even with two outs in the fourth when No. 9 hitter Cody Asche hit a solo shot to centre off Santos. Cabrera added an RBI single and Adam Lind a two-run double in the fourth for a 7-4 lead. Bautistas second homer made it 9-4 in the sixth. A Ryan Goins triple increased the lead to 10-4 in the seventh. Philadelphia pulled two back in the seventh against reliever Aaron Loup. The Jays added a run in the eighth on a Dan Johnson RBI single. Phillies starter Roberto Hernandez had his own troubles on the day, before exiting with one out in the fourth. He gave up seven earned runs on 11 hits with one walk and two strikeouts. The 33-year-old right-hander from the Dominican Republic, who was 6-13 with a 4.89 ERA last season for Tampa Bay, cruised through the first two innings and then crumbled in the third and fourth. Previously known as Fausto Carmona, Hernandez came to the Phillies in December on a US$4.5 million, one-year contract. He made headlines in January 2012 when he was arrested on charges of falsifying his identity that were later dropped. Major League Baseball suspended him for three weeks. NOTES -- Earlier Wednesday, the Jays assigned left-hander Ricky Romero and right-hander Marcus Stroman to their minor-league complex. Both were shelled in an 18-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday ... Toronto entered Wednesdays games with 74 walks in spring training, worst among American League teams. cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '

LAKE MARY, Florida - In its first action of the preseason, the Montreal Impact defeated Orlando City SC 2-1 on Sunday, at the Seminole Soccer Complex. Midfielder Andres Romero and newcomer Santiago Gonzalez scored for the Impact in the win. The Impact used two completely different lineups in each half, with the only constant being goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau who played the full 90 minutes. After a tougher first half, the Impact progressed in the second, creating a number of scoring chances. In the 56th minute, Romero, playing down the left flank, put a through ball behind the Orlando defence that found Marco Di Vaio. The Italian striker flicked the ball into the box to Gonzalez, who took one touch to the right before beating the keeper with a low shot back in the opposite direction. Orlando tied things up in the 66th minute, but a minute later, the Impact found the back of the net yet again. This time, Sanna Nyassi broke in alone on goal, chasing the ball deep near the goal line after it got away from him. He played it back outside the box to Romero, who curled it into the top corner. "Playing a game like this to get things started is good because we get to shake out all the cobwebs," said defender Karl W. Ouimette. "The second half was a little better and we need to use games like this to get back into the rhythm. Now we continue to work." "It was not easy for the group today but it was good to get out there," said defender Eric Miller. The Impact will play its first game of the Disney Soccer Classic on Wednesday, February 19, at 8pm, against Fluminense U23 FC. MIAMI -- Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili trudged off the court, their heads hanging, bald spots that come from more than a decade of games like this for all to see. These proud San Antonio Spurs gave everything they had in Game 7. And when their valiant fight fell just short, they couldnt stop thinking about the title they gave away two nights earlier. LeBron James scored 37 points and the Spurs couldnt quite finish one last stand in a 95-88 loss to the defending champion Miami Heat on Thursday night. "To be at this point with this team in this situation, where people every year continue to count us out, is a great accomplishment," said Duncan, his voice quivering in a rare show of emotion for the intensely private star. "To be in a game 7 or be in a game 6 and up one with two chances to win an NBA championship, thats tough to swallow." Duncan had 24, 12 rebounds and four steals and Ginobili scored 18 points with five assists. But Tony Parker struggled with just 10 points on 3-for-12 shooting and the Spurs were left lamenting the Game 6 collapse that cost them their fifth title under coach Gregg Popovich. "Being so close and feeling that you are about to grab that trophy and then seeing it vanish is very hard," Ginobili said. "I think that if we wouldve lost both games like this, I would be a little more up. But its a tough feeling." The Spurs were in it the whole game, down 90-88 with two minutes to go after a 3-pointer by Kawhi Leonard. But Duncan missed two point blank chances to tie and had a turnover in the closing minutes, and James went out and grabbed the title that was there for the taking after the Spurs let it slip away. "For me, Game 7 is always going to haunt me," Duncan said. It was a heart-breaking way to end it for these Spurs, who were 21 seconds from title No. 5 when everything went wrong in Game 6. James hit a 3 and Ray Allen hit another with 5.2 seconds to go to tie it, and the Heat outlasted the Spurs in overtime to force a Game 7. "Its such a fine line between celebrating and having a great summer with now feeling like crap and just so disappointed," Ginobili said. Now, once again, they will face proclamations of their demise. Only this time, it may be harder to hold those off. Duncan is 37, but coming off an All-NBA First Team season and a vintage performance in the finals. The 31-year-old Parker is nearing his apex after one of his finest seasons. But Ginobili will turn 36 next month and will be a free agent, perhaps marking the end of the three-person core that helped put the Alamo City on the NBA map, and keep it there for 10 years. "I couldnt love our guys more," Popovich said. "What they accomplished this year was something nobody ever expected. They showed a lot of mental toughness and a lot of good play to get where they got. I couldnt be more proud of them." They gave it their all, these Spurs. But in the end, James was just too much, and a prophecy came to be. Back in 2007, when the Spurs swept James and the Cleveland Cavaliers for the franchises fourth title, Duncan found the young superstar for a quiet moment to tell him that the league would one day be his. Now James has four MVPs, two Olympic golds and back-to-back titles on his resume. Duncan has been right so many times throughout his career. This time, its at his expense. The questions begin now. Will Ginobili return? Can Duncan keep turning back the clock? And does the 64-year-old Popovich have another year left in him? Parker chafed when asked if he thought this was the last run with this group. "I cant believe youre asking that question," Parker snapped. "Its been five, six years you saying were too old, so Im not going to answer that." Duncan said flatly that he will be back next season -- "I have a contract that says I am" -- and Ginobili said it was too soon to think about that. "Its not the moment," Ginobili said. "Im very disappointed, very upset. I really cant say anything." The coach said, win or lose, he will take some time after the season to do some travelling and be with his family before he makes a decision. But he sure didnt sound like the kind of guy who was pondering riding off into the sunset. "After a little while just getting up when you want to in the morning and really not having challenges gets a little boring," Popovich said before the game. "You can only grow so many tomatoes and read so many books. You want to get busy, get competitive again. "When I stop feeling competitive around September, then Ill hang it up." Monta Ellis scored eight of his 23 points in the fourth quarter and the Mavericks kept their playoff position with their third straight win, a 93-91 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday. The Mavericks won for the fourth time in five games to maintain seventh place in the Western Conference. It was the fifth straight road win for Dallas, which concludes its four-game road trip Tuesday in Utah. "Every game is a playoff game right now," Dallas reserve centre DeJuan Blair said. The Kings defeated Dallas at home earlier this season and their three straight losses have been by a combined nine points. So with Nowitzki getting 15 points on 5-of-17 shooting, the Mavericks had to look elsewhere for a reliable scorer. It was Ellis who stepped up in a tight fourth quarter. He made a crucial 3-pointer and converted all three free throws when Dallas was clinging to its slim lead down the stretch. Ellis made a 3 at the 3:04 mark of the fourth quarter and converted a three-point play to give the Mavericks a 90-84 lead with 1:51 left. "Monta saved the day in the fourth quarter," Nowitzki said. "He made that huge 3 and then he had the and-one (three-point play) on a pick and roll. He was phenomenal in the fourth quarter." Rudy Gay had 32 points and tied a career high with eight assists for the Kings, DeMarcus Cousins added 28 points and 10 rebounds, and rookie point guard Ray McCallum had eight points and nine rebounds. The Kings played their sixth straight game without starting point guard Isaiah Thomas (right quadriceps contusion), who is averaging 20.7 points and 6.4 assists per game. "The Kings match up tough against us," said Blair, who had six points and nine rebounds in 17 minutes. "They have played us three tough games." Vince Carter scored 17 points and Jose Calderon hit four 3-pointers and added 14 points for the Mavericks, who made 13 threes. Nowitzki, who shot 64 per cent and averaged 28.7 points in his previous three games, missed eight of his first 10 shots. Followwing a timeout early in the third quarter, Nowitzki hit a 19-footer and soon after made a 3-pointer.dddddddddddd "Obviously, their backs are up against the wall right now. They know they need every game they can get to get into the post-season," Gay said. "We went into this game knowing that we didnt have anything to lose. They are going to play a lot of teams that dont have anything to lose. For them to stay competitive, its going to be tough for them." The Kings fouled Ellis intentionally and he made two free throws to put Dallas in front 92-87 with 24 seconds left. McCallums layup and two free throws by Gay pulled the Kings to within one point. But Nowitzki hit one of two foul shots and Cousins was short on a baseline jumper in the closing seconds that would have sent the game to overtime. "I still think we had an opportunity to make something happen," Cousins said. "But I am kind of disappointed in myself for settling for a shot like that. I could have gotten a lot better shot than that." The teams swapped misses before Gays three-point play pulled the Kings within three points with 26 seconds left. Cousins made a driving shot in traffic to put Sacramento ahead 77-75 with 6:51 to go in the fourth. Consecutive 3s by Carter and another by Shawn Marion put Dallas ahead 84-79 with 4:20. Trailing for much of the third quarter, Ellis had three transition baskets and Calderon made a 3 to help Dallas outscore the Kings 11-4 in the final 3:15 to take a 68-65 lead into the fourth. "We knew it was going to be a dog fight, but the good thing is we stayed together," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "The Kings are pretty tough, but we came through. Every game has such a high level of importance. We need to play much better than tonight." NOTES: Cousins had 14 of his 16 first-half points in the first quarter. The Kings led 48-45 at the half. ... TORONTO -- Terrence Ross seemed a bit taken aback by all the fuss. Although hed just matched a Toronto Raptors record with 51 points, Ross wasnt sure why someone threw him a game ball. With the media crowding around his locker, he noted that New Yorks Carmelo Anthony poured in 62 on Friday night and Oklahomas Kevin Durant had 54 earlier this month. It was left to teammate Greivis Vasquez to offer some perspective, noting that while those veterans may have scored more, Ross had eclipsed the half-century mark in just his second year in the NBA. "You dont think about it once you try winning the game and you do whatever," Ross said after the Raptors fell 126-118 to the Los Angeles Clippers in a highly entertaining game at Air Canada Centre. "You dont really realize what youre doing until its all over. "It would have been better if we had the win but I guess thats just how it goes." Ross nearly doubled his previous career-high of 26 against Portland last season. "My teammates just had confidence in me," Ross said. "Every time I was open they passed it to me, so I just shot it and thats what they want me to. I just kept shooting." Ross was 16-for-29 on the night in field goal attempts, including 10 of 17 from three-point range to match the Raptors single-game point record set by Vince Carter against the Phoenix Suns in 2000. Ross, who got a standing ovation from those remaining amongst the sellout crowd of 19,800 when he went to free-throw line in the final minute, had a chance to break the record but missed a last foul shot. Ross almost single-handedly kept the Raptors in the game after DeMar DeRozan went down with a sprained foot and missed the second half. "Terrance picked it up...and put on a heck of a display," Toronto head coach Dwane Casey said. "Not only did he get 51 points but he had nine rebounds, which was huge." But it wasnt enough against the Clippers (31-15), one of the NBAs elite teams. Jamal Crawford with 37 points and Blake Griffin with 30 led the Clippers, 8-2 in their past 10 games. The loss snapped the Raptors (22-21) two-game winning streak. The game see-sawed back and forth until the fourth quarter, each trip up the court adding to the drama. But after Jonas Valanciunas converted an alley oop from Kyle Lowry to give the Raptors a 107-106 lead with 6:34 to go, the Clippers showed why they are among the leagues best. L.A. had an 11-1 run over the next 2:42 and never looked back. "It was an incredible offensive display on their part," Casey said of the Clippers, who shot 55 per cent on field goals compared to 49 per cent for Toronto. "Its not like our guys werent giving an effort on the defensive end. They made some tough shots." DeRozan, who rolled on his left ankle after being undercut on a jump shot by vilified former Raptor Hedo Turkoglu in the second quarter, said "its a little painful right now" after the game. Casey said X-rays on DeRozans foot proved negative and hell re-evaluated on Sunday. Toronto led 37-36 at the half. L.A. was up 71-65 at the half. It was 93-93 after three quarters. Lowry, who had 11 points and 12 assists, said Ross performance "left me speechless. "Ive seen him shoot the ball before and tonight with DeMar going down he stepped it up and thats what a team does," Lowry said. "Unfortunately, we didnt win tonight." Tyrann Mathieu Jersey . "You know, hed be fun to watch if you werent coaching the other team," Clifford said. James scored 30 points to help Miami beat Charlotte 97-81 Saturday night for the Heats 13th straight victory against the Bobcats. With Mario Chalmers suspended, Chris Bosh limited due to foul trouble, Ray Allen out with the flu and Dwyane Wade a non-factor, James came up big for the Heat. The four-time MVP was 13 of 18 from the field and had seven assists in his eighth 20-point game this season. "More than anything, it was his energy," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said of James. "When you see him attacking off the glass and pushing coast to coast, you know he feels good with his body and you know it sets a great tone for our team. Hes playing with great energy on both ends of the court." Miami (7-3) relied on its bench to close the game out. Of Miamis 29 points in the fourth quarter, 23 came from reserves Michael Beasley, Chris Anderson, Rashard Lewis and Roger Mason Jr. Beasley finished with 15 points and Anderson had 10 for the Heat, winners of six of their last seven overall. Bosh said it was an odd feeling having so many starters out of the game in the fourth quarter with the outcome still in doubt. "I dont know when the last time that has happened," Bosh said. "But (the reserves) kept the lead at a nice distance. We were rooting for them and encouraging them because we need everybody -- one through 15 -- to not only raise their play but sustain it." James said he had intentions of returning to the game late in the fourth quarter but didnt need to after the Heats reserves began to pull away with the lead. "Once they got going I just said let them keep going," James said. "They had a great rhythm." Kemba Walker had 22 points to lead the Bobcats, who shot 35 per cent from the field. Jeffery Taylor scored 14 points and has now finished in double digits in six of the last seven games. The Bobcats (5-5) had won two straight comingg in, and stayed within 10 points for a good portion of the fourth quarter but could never grab the lead.dddddddddddd. "Weve got to keep on pushing," Walker said. "I think weve been playing some great basketball right now. Its still early in the season. All we have to do is keep looking forward and keep trying to get better." James had 20 points in the first half on 8-of-11 shooting and Miami led by as many as 16. Only one of James first-half field goals came from outside of 10 feet as he did his damage driving and attacking the basket. Its a good thing for Miami that James was on his game early because the other parts of the big three struggled. Wade only played 23 minutes after his knee tightened up, while Bosh had three fouls and no points in eight first-half minutes. Bosh would later pick up his fifth foul with 4:27 left in the third quarter and drew a technical foul after hed taken a seat on the bench. A few seconds later, Spoelstra began chirping at the officials and he was slapped with a technical, too. But the Heat survived, in part because of their defence. James said thats a good sign. "At the end of the day if we dont defend we arent going to be able to compete where we want to compete," James said. "It was nice to see us play with a lot of energy tonight." Chalmers was serving a one-game suspension after being ejected from the Heats 110-104 victory over Dallas on Friday night. Chalmers was called for flagrant-2 foul with 5:01 remaining in the fourth quarter after referees ruled he intentionally swung an elbow at Dirk Nowitzkis head as he tried to fight through screen. Before Saturday nights game Spoelstra said he "disagreed" with the NBAs decision to suspend Chalmers. "We dont have to agree with it," Spoelstra said. "What we can do is agree to disagree." ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Bills general manager Doug Whaley is more eager to see Jairus Byrd make his season debut this weekend, than to try to project the two-time Pro Bowl safetys future in Buffalo. Whaley told The Associated Press on Thursday that while he is not actively shopping Byrd, the Bills would listen to offers if another team called. "Our focus right now is Jairus getting on the field and playing the best he can for the Buffalo Bills," Whaley said. "We are not actively on the phone hammering out trying to look for a trade. By the same token, (team president) Russ Brandon would listen if someone wanted to trade. "So if the phone rings, were going to listen. But that doesnt mean were out trying to trade." Whaley stressed the same rule applies to any player on the roster with the NFL trading deadline approaching Oct. 29. As for Byrds future, Whaley didnt entirely rule out the possibility of the Bills re-signing the fifth-year player once his one-year franchise tag expires after this season. "Absolutely, I mean theres always a possibility," Whaley said. "Its one of those things where you can never say never. Will he be on the team? We hope so. Were not sure, but were going to do everything thats best for the Buffalo Bills in the future." The immediate future for Whaley is Byrd preparing to make his long-awaited season debut on Sunday, when the Bills (2-3) host the Cincinnati Bengals (3-2). Byrd is set to play after he missed the entire off-season because of a contract dispute, and the first five games of the season because of plantar fasciitis in both feet. "Were very much excited for him to get back out there," Whaley said. "Its going to help our defence. Its going to help our offence. Its going to help our team." Byrd has the potential to be a significant difference maker, which is a reason the Bills made a one-year $6.9 million franchise-tag tender in March to prevent him from becoming an unrestricted free agent. Though the move allowed the Bills to retain Byrds rights, it led to a stalemate in contact negotiations during which the two sides were unable to reach a long-term deal before a July 15 deadline. Byrd didnt report to the team until he finally accepted the one-year contract Aug. 21. That didnt mean he was ready to play. Byrd has spent the past seven weeks being treated for the foot condition that had nagged him since last season. Whaley said the team has been impressed with how Byrd has handled himself throughout his rehabilitation, which has included the player spending extra time on the field following practice. On another topic, Whaley was encouraged by the progress rookie quarterback EJ Manuel showed in his first five starts before being sideline indefinitely by a sprained right knee in a 37-24 loss to Cleveland last week. "Obviously, you want him to go out there and take the live reps, but hes doing a good job," Manuel said. "Are we discouraged? More for the kid, because he was growing and learning." The first-round pick out of Florida State was off to inconsistent start before being injured. He completed 85 of 150 attempts for 985 yards passing with five touchdowns and three interceptions. "In any rookie quarterback, youre going to have some bumps in the road," Whaley said. Manuel will continue developing from a mental perspective by travelling with the team and watching games from the coaches box. "Yes, we do think theres time and a combination of learning that can go on off the field," Whaley said, "and off the field that we think will benefit this guy down the road." SINGAPORE - Anders Hansen of Denmark holed three straight birdies to close his round of 5-under 67 and move into a share of the lead with Thailands Panuphol Pittayarat after the third round of The Championship at Laguna National on Saturday. Hansen, who won the last of his three European Tour titles at the Joburg Open in 2009, is playing in just his fourth event since returning from a six-month layoff due to a wrist injury. He was tied for fifth last week at the China Open. "It was nice to finish with those three birdies," he said. "It was a little more windy today so it was more tricky. It was a great finish." Panuphol, the leader after the first two rounds, made four birdies but dropped only his second shot of the week on the par-3 17th. He shot a 69. The 21-year-old Thai will be the underdog in the final round on Sunday — he has never won on the European Tour and hasnt even made the cut in three events on the Asian Tour this year. "Ive been in contention a couple of times where I got to play with some great players. I will try not to think about how they are doing and just do my best," he said. "My performance so far this week has definitely given me a huge confidence boost." Hansens comeback has been quick after undergoing wrist surgery last year. He missed his first two cuts but has now shot below 70 in five of his last six rounds. "Every time you are up there you have to be pleased so Im looking forward to tomorrow," he said. "I love competition and I love playing under the gun — it gets your attention." Both golfers were at 16-under 200 overall, two strokes ahead of Dutchman Robert-Jan Derksen and American David Lipsky. Derksen last won on the European Tour nine years ago and is planning to retire at the end of the season. He had eight birdies — and three bogeys — in a round 67. "It would be lovely to go out at the end of the season with one more win," he said. Frances Gregory Bourdy and Englands Chris Wood were in joint-fifth, three shots off the pace. Williams III has been a San Francisco 49ers fan since John Brodie was throwing touchdown passes at Candlestick Park in the 1970s. So he was excited about the prospects of scoring a ticket to make the trip to Seattle in January to watch the rivals battle in the NFC Championship Game. But the Las Vegas man says in a $50 million lawsuit against the NFL that his hopes were dashed by the league and others he accuses of engaging in "economic discrimination" with an illegal ticket policy limiting credit-card sales to selected pro-Seattle markets. His lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas says it was part of an effort to keep 49er fans away and further promote the Seahawks boisterous home-field advantage at CenturyLink Field. "Theyre always boasting up there about their 12th player and everything else," Williams told The Associated Press on Friday. "But by allowing the NFL to decide who can or cannot attend the games, you make it an unfair game. Seattle fixed it." Williams, who works as a promoter in the entertainment industry, said that because the NFL relies heavily on public subsidies and money from taxpayers to build stadiums. it should not be allowed to deny ticket sales to individuals on the basis they are "not from an area determined by the team — or the NFL — to be fan of that team." "The practice of withholding the sale of tickets from the public at large and allowing only credit card holders limited to certain areas is a violation of the Federal Consumer Fraud Act and/or common law," according to the lawsuit filed April 15..dddddddddddd In the case of Januarys game, the Seahawks limited ticket sales only to credit cards with addresses in the states of Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii, as well as the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta. As a result, he said, he suffered "economic discrimination and violation of public accommodation solely" because his credit card was not issued in the restrictive states or Canada — "which is not even part of the United States." "This selected process is contrary to the spirit of the NFL and contrary to public accommodation," said Williams, who is seeking $10 million in punitive damages on top of $40 million in real damages. Brian McCarthy, the NFLs vice-president of communications, said the league has no comment on the lawsuit. Officials for California-based Ticketmaster, which is now part of Live Nation Entertainment Inc., and the Seattle Seahawks did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Williams said he had made up his mind that if San Francisco beat the Carolina Panthers in a semifinal game, he was going to buy tickets to the NFC title game in Seattle for himself, his roommate, a girlfriend who lives in Canada and her daughter. San Francisco beat Carolina 23-10, then lost at Seattle 23-17. "I live in Las Vegas, but Im originally from San Francisco. Ive seen John Brodie back in the day, and Joe Montana. I really wanted to go up there to see the Niners," Williams said. "I think the tickets should be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, not based on who they want in the crowd." cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '

WINTERBERG, Germany -- Canadian Sarah Reid won a bronze medal Saturday at the Winterberg skeleton World Cup while Britains Lizzie Yarnold topped Noelle Pikus-Pace of the United States in the second run for the victory. Reid, from Calgary, was third with a two-run time of one minute 58.49 seconds. Yarnold took gold in 1:57.53 and Pikus-Pace won silver in 1:58.10. Reid, who won bronze earlier this season in Park City, Utah, now has seven career World Cup medals. "Im really happy with today. I had two good pushes and my runs were smooth," said Reid, who was recently named to the 2014 Canadian Olympic team. "Ive had some up-and-down results in Winterberg so to be back on the podium is important for me. "This is a bit of a lucky track because weather plays such a huge factor and the track always deteriorates." Yarnold had a 5.34-second start to begin her second run, 0.22 seconds faster than Pikus-Pace, and rode that momentum the rest of the way. Mellisa Hollingsworth of Eckville, Alta. was tied in sixth place and Calgarys Robynne Thompson was 17th. Reid won five medals last season, including a third-place finish at the 2013 world championships. She is currently fourth in the overall standings. "It is a big deal for me to get back on the podium on a European track," she said. "The end goal is obviously to be on the podium in Sochi, but the leadup is very important for me. "Knowing Im having success along the way and that Im exactly where I want to be with my pushes and sliding is a confidence booster for me." Yarnold leads the standings with 1,085 points, 225 more than Pikus-Pace -- who lost exactly that many points when she was disqualified after finishing first in the season opener at Calgary. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota Wild were reeling as last year ended. Star Zach Parise was on injured reserve. Coach Mike Yeos job was in jeopardy. Then the problems really piled up. Starting goalie Josh Harding was out of action again with an illness. Captain Mikko Koivu broke his ankle. Defenceman Jared Spurgeon got hurt, too. Somehow, the Wild survived -- and thrived. "Ah, it was a piece of cake," Yeo said last week, smiling wryly. "I slept like a baby." With an 11-4-2 record in 17 games since the calendar turned to 2014, the Wild have taken control of the first of two wild-card spots in the Western Conference playoff race. With 69 points, theyre ahead of Phoenix and Dallas, who have 64 apiece and have played one fewer game. Eight of those 11 wins were in regulation. "All I wanted to do is I wanted our players to look at me and say, OK, hes got confidence. OK, well, we should have confidence," Yeo said. "That was the one thing that I wanted. And I did believe in the group that we had still. And I did believe in the game that we played." The Wild still have had trouble scoring, ranking 25th in the NHL with 2.36 goals per game. With Hardings return unknown and Niklas Backstrom injured and ineffective at different times this season, Darcy Kuemper has taken over in the net. Relying on a rookie goalie can be a risk. But Parise is back in form from his broken foot. Spurgeon has returned. Koivu is skipping the Olympics and expected at full strength when the schedule resumes on Feb. 27. Nino Niederreiter, acquired in a draft-day trade, has given the offence a boost. Mikael Granlund has bounced back from a rough rookie year. "I think weve got good character," leading scorer Jason Pominville said. "A lot of guys stepped up in ddifferent situations.ddddddddddddIt wasnt easy at times. You could tell that we were missing some of our key guys, but I think other guys kind of found a way to adjust their game and get adjusted to the level of our play that you have to be successful night in and night out." During Yeos tenure as coach, the Wild have seemed to play better in less-than-ideal circumstances than when in tip-top shape. "Knowing our group, knowing competitors in general, they love a challenge," Yeo said. "So I think we all do." League realignment was welcomed by the Wild, for enhanced regional rivalries to better entice fans and more games in their own time zone. But this season, the new look has made their post-season bid more difficult. Only the top three teams in each division are guaranteed a playoff spot, and St. Louis (84 points), Chicago (84) and Colorado (79) are comfortably ahead of the Wild, who have only 23 games left. "Weve just got to focus on winning games and when we play Colorado, try to beat them and try to lessen that cushion that they have on us and try to slowly creep up on them," Pominville said. Added Parise: "Thats hard to gain that many points. But you never know. ... Youve got to push the teams down that are below you, and we have to take care of ourselves." The non-Olympians on the roster will reconvene for practice next week. The Wild will have to be careful not to lose the momentum they built, with 21 days between games. "Much the same as out of the lockout, its how can you get yourself game ready?" Yeo said. "Making sure that youre ready to execute and play at the pace that you need to play at, making sure that youre ready to battle at the level you need to, and making sure that the conditioning is at the level that you need it at." cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '

AUSTIN, Texas -- Back in Texas for the second time in four days, the Oklahoma State Cowboys had to leave star guard Marcus Smart back home under orders of the Big 12. Without him, they didnt have a chance against the No. 19 Texas Longhorns. Smart served the first of a three-game suspension for shoving a Texas Tech fan and the Longhorns sent the reeling Cowboys to their fifth straight loss, 87-68 Tuesday night, as guard Javan Felix erupted for 27 points and made six of Texas 11 3-pointers. "Were going through a tough time right now. Were not down, not blaming anybody else," Oklahoma State centre Kamari Murphy said. "Theres no excuses." The Cowboys didnt have any answers either. Texas stormed through a 54-point first half and had four players score in double figures despite missing leading scorer Jonathan Holmes, who sat out with an ankle injury. When the teams met in early January, Smart had 24 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in a Cowboys victory. Back then, his defence also helped limit Felix and Longhorns guard Isaiah Taylor to 14 total points. Without the muscular Smart in their face, those two combined for 43 points Tuesday night. "This has nothing to do with Marcus Smart," Cowboys coach Travis Ford. "He wasnt here tonight. Weve got to play with what weve got." LeBryan Nash scored 23 points to lead the Cowboys (16-8, 4-7). Sharp-shooting guard Phil Forte, who was Smarts high-school teammate when they won a Texas state championship on the same court, was just 2-of-7 shooting and never got a chance to open up from long-range. Forward Brian Williams was 0-8 and the Cowboys shot just 36 per cent for the game. Smart still must sit out games against Oklahoma and Baylor before he can return for a rematch with Texas Tech. "We just waited until the second half to start playing ... which was too late," Murphy said. Texas (19-5, 8-3) didnt miss a beat without Holmes, its best all-around player. Felix, who missed a game a week ago with a concussion and was just a 30-per cent shooter from long range coming in, scored eight consecutive points that pushed the Texas lead to 22 in the first half. Texas led 54-33 at halftime. "I know I can make those shots. Its a matter of me taking them," Felix said. Martez Walker scored 12 and Cameron Ridley had his sixth double-double of the season for Texas with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Texas outburst came three days after the Longhorns scored just 18 points in the first half of a loss at Kansas State that ended a seven-game winning streak. Back home, Texas made eight 3-pointers and shot better than 50 per cent for most of the first half. Conner Lammert, who got just his second start of the season in place of Holmes, made three 3-pointers in the first half. Felix made two 3-pointers and a layup that put Texas ahead 36-14. Felix opened the second half with two more 3-pointers. He followed the first one with a steal that set up his second in transition. The run ended any chance of a Cowboys rally. Ford noted that Texas came in as the second-worst shooting team from 3-point range in the Big 12. "They go out and make 11," Ford said. "You cant sit around and hope a team misses, youve got to do something about it." After giving up three points in the second end, Calvert came back with a single, then stole two more points in the next two ends to tie it up at the fifth-end break. The Canadians trailed 5-4 after seven ends but stole two in eighth and controlled the rest of the game to secure their first win. "That was definitely a big comeback," Calvert said. "We just stuck with our game plan and it finally paid off in the end. "It definitely takes a hit to the teaams confidence when you go behind by three so early on.dddddddddddd. We knew we just had to get the two (points) and force the one repeatedly and we did that and we were lucky to get out on top today." The Canadians started the round robin with two losses Wednesday against Russia and Sweden. On the womens side, Edmontons Kelsey Rocque lost 6-4 to Russia and 8-6 to South Korea. The losses evened Canadas record at 2-2. "Were playing all right, I guess," Rocque said. "Ive been struggling a bit. We just arent capitalizing." LOS ANGELES -- After Tomas Tatar knocked the rebound into the Kings net for Detroits tiebreaking goal, he kissed his index finger and pointed it skyward. In his first game since his fathers death back home in Slovakia, Tatar honoured him with a beautiful goal and a graceful gesture, sending the Red Wings on to an emotional victory. Tatar scored the winning goal with 7:54 to play in the Red Wings 3-1 win over Los Angeles on Saturday night. Tatar had an early assist on Riley Sheahans first NHL goal, and he completed a cathartic night by jumping on Sheahans shot in the slot and beating Jonathan Quick for a goal in his third straight game -- but the first since his father, 60-year-old Jan, died of a liver ailment. "That game and that goal was for him," Tatar said. "I felt he was with us the whole game. It wasnt easy, but the guys helped me a lot. They helped me think about stuff other than my dad." Tatar made the long trip home during Detroits holiday break to see his father, but he isnt sure whether Jan, a former soccer player, realized his son is headed to the Olympics next month. "I was hoping he could make it through," Tatar said. "I just wanted to work as hard as I could for my dad. This game was for him." Tatar will play for the Wings on Sunday night in Anaheim before heading home for his fathers funeral, missing a game against the Rangers next week. Detroit coach Mike Babcock praised the 23-year-olds quiet maturity. "The way you honour your father or your mother when they pass is by continuing to do what you should do," Babcock said. "Playing hard and doing things well. I lost my mom early, too. I never wanted to let her down. And his dad is here with him." Daniel Cleary also scored in the third period, and Jimmy Howard made 44 saves as the Red Wings slowed their recent slump by sending Los Angeles to its seventh loss in nine games. Howard made several big saves in the final minute as Detroit hung on for its second win in five games, but also injured his hip flexor, according to Babcock. Backup Petr Mrazek will start when the Red Wings face NHL-leading Anaheim. Drew Doughty scored his first goal in a month during a two-man advantage, but the Kings couldnt score in the final two periods of their third loss in 10 home games. Quick stopped 23 shots, but also gave up a juicy rebound on Tatars go-ahead goal. "We outshot them, but we had some scoring opportunities that we didnt get a good shot off," Kings forward Anze Kopitar said. "We were trying to do too much, and in a situation like that, were got to make sure we get a good shot off so that whoevers a couple of feet from the net can try to get the rebound. We just have to bear down a lot better." Cleary finished off the Kings by capitalizing on an opportunity created by Luke Glendening, who knocked Jake Muzzin to the ice and fed Cleary for his fourth goal with 2:34 to play. Los Angeles lost in regulation for the first time in four games on a five-game homestand. Quick hadnt lost in regulation since returning from a 24-game absence with a groin injury, but his teammates returned to their low-scoring ways after a four-goal outburst against Boston two nights ago. Los Angeles has scored more than three goals in a game just once since Dec. 19. "You cant win every game 1-0 or 2-1," Kings forward Justin Williams said. "Certainly we had enough chances to win the game tonight, but we didnt do it. The onus is on us to put the puck in the back of the net." After Doughtys goal late in the first period, Detroit evened it when Sheahan flipped home a puck in front while being checked to the ice, scoring his first goal in seven career NHL games over two seasons. The 22-year-old Sheahan was a first-round pick in 2010, playing three seasons at Notre Dame before winning a Calder Cup with the Wings AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids last year. Detroit recalled him from the AHL on Friday. "I wasnt able to really feel the feeling when I scored," Sheahan said. "But now Im pretty excited to go talk to my parents about it." TORONTO -- Colin Campbell feels the pain of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The NHLs senior executive vice-president of hockey operations acknowledged Thursday that linesman Tony Sericolo erred in not whistling the play dead prior to Danny Brieres first goal in the opening game of the Penguins-Flyers series. "Theres no other way to explain it but a missed call," Campbell told The Canadian Press in an interview. "Were as upset as Pittsburgh almost. Its a mistake." Briere scored Philadelphias first goal on Wednesday night after being sent in on a breakaway by teammate Brayden Schenn. The long pass came immediately after a neutral zone turnover and replays showed that Briere was a couple feet offside. The play started a big comeback for the Flyers, who erased a three-goal deficit and beat Pittsburgh 4-3 in overtime. However, the Penguins refused to use it as an excuse for their collapse. "Thats not why we lost the game," coach Dan Bylsma said immediately afterwards. Added captain Sidney Crosby on Thursday: "It affected the game, but at the end of the day worrying about it or thinking about it is not going to change anything. Its over." Campbell believes thatt Sericolo was in position to make the right call but failed to do so because of how quickly the play went from one end of the ice to the other.dddddddddddd It appeared as though the linesman considered blowing the play dead just before indicating it was onside. "It was a quick turnaround," said Campbell. "You can see it was a quick 70-foot pass -- the linesman was up with the play and then had to move quickly back and he saw it from the angle he saw it from. "But still his job is to get the right call and he didnt." Sericolo is a veteran linesman with more than 800 games of NHL experience dating back to October 1998. He was among 40 officials -- 20 referees and 20 linesmen -- selected to be part of the pool for playoff assignments. The blown call could affect how director of officiating Terry Gregson makes staffing decisions later in the post-season, according to Campbell. "Theres always fallout," he said. "The referees and the linesmen are judged on the work they do as far as how they advance in doing games. If mistakes are made, no matter how difficult they are, theres got to be decisions made on who advances." A phone call to Gregson wasnt returned. cheap nfl jerseys ' ' '
